Audition local Extra Chorus (all voices) of the Gothenburg Opera Chorus

The Opera chorus consists of 42 professional singers and perform in most of our productions as well as concerts. We consider stagecraft and movement to be important elements of the chorus' work.

From time to time we are in need of singers to join our extra chorus. On March 22nd 2026 we will hold an audition for local singers of all voice types. Approved singers may be employed as needed on production contracts, with location in Gothenburg, in accordance with our union agreements with SYMF (Swedish Professional Musician’s Union).

During the next two seasons we believe that extra chorus singers will be needed in 1-2 productions.

Qualifications requirement: Completed education at university level in Music or Opera or equivalent training. Our working languages are Swedish and English. Professional stage experience is considered meritus.

The auditions will take place on Sunday 22nd of March 2026. Selected candidates will receive detailed information about the audition and the audition procedure by the March 12th 2026, at the latest.

For the audition we would like you to prepare the following:

• An opera aria of your choice, no longer than 5 minutes to be performed by heart. Please note, there will be no rehearsal with the pianist. 
• A short chorus excerpt, which will be sent with the invitation to the audition. You will sing your part (preferably by heart) together with the pianist.

The result of your audition will be decided by a jury consisting of the chorus master, representatives from the chorus management and a number of singers from the opera chorus.
