About the position

Would you like to work with world-class performing arts and play a key role in creating the Göteborg Opera’s stage sets? We are now looking for a Lead Scenic Painter to both guide and take part in the artistic work of our set production. You will have a central role in coordinating the work of the scenic painting studio, both at the Opera House and in our workshops at Magasinet, collaborating closely with set designers, other workshops and production teams. The position combines hands-on artistic work with team leadership, and requires craftsmanship, organisational skills and an eye for both the bigger picture and the finer details.

About you

We are looking for someone with solid artistic and technical skills in scenic painting and sculpture, broad material knowledge, and experience of working in performing arts productions, including in positions of responsibility. You are confident in taking initiative, prioritising and planning, and you enjoy working both independently and together with others. You are clear, straightforward and communicative in your leadership, and strongly committed to creating a positive and supportive working environment. You are collaborative, solution-oriented and delivery-focused – with an understanding that artistic quality must always be balanced against time, budget and sustainability.

You have a post-secondary artistic education in scenic painting, or equivalent documented professional competence. You also have at least three years’ experience as a scenic painter in performing arts, and good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Plan and coordinate the season’s set painting and production Guide the work based on drawings, models and set designers’ intentions Lead and distribute tasks within the team Estimate time, develop working methods and allocate resources within project frameworks Take responsibility for purchasing, as well as the condition of equipment and facilities Contribute to the development of the profession and colleagues’ skills Collaborate with other professional groups in the production process Actively contribute to sustainable operations and a healthy working environment
