The Göteborg Opera has an orchestra of 86 musicians, a choir of 46 singers and a soloist ensemble of 24 singers.

The Göteborg Opera is now looking for a conductor in the beginning of his/her career for a time-limited employment as

Assistant conductor

Duties:

• Assist guest-conductors
• When needed conduct piano rehearsals, sectional rehearsals and orchestra rehearsals
• Conduct some concerts and performances

Requirements:

• Higher education in orchestra conducting or equivalent experience
• Experience of conducting professional ensembles
• Experience of working within an opera production
• Good knowledge in English

Meriting skills:

• Trained pianist with the ability to play vocal scores and recitatives
• Very good knowledge in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian
• Knowledge in French, German and/or Italian

This is a time limited employment from August 2026 to June 2028. It is a full time position and working hours do frequently include evenings and weekends.

A first selection will be made based on the applicants resume (max 2 pages), cover letter (max 1 page) and video recording of the applicant conducting. The video must show the applicant from the front and be of good sound- and video quality and shall be provided as a youtube-link (listed or unlisted) in the application. The application deadline is July 26th 2025.

A limited number of applicants will be selected for audition and interview at the Göteborg Opera on September 30th and October 1st 2025. Repertoire for the first round of audition will be:

• Beethoven: Symphony no 6 "Pastoral"
• Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (start- reh no 6)

Repertoire for rounds 2 and 3 will be sent to the selected applicants in early August 2025.

The Gothenburg Opera will cover hotel 29th September- 1st October for the selected applicants.
