The Göteborg Opera’s vision is to become one of the leading opera houses in Northern Europe. We present a broad repertoire of opera, dance, musicals and concerts, and are an important player in the development of the region. GöteborgsOperan AB is a state-owned company, which employs around 500 people full-time. We stage around 300 shows per year on our stages: the Main Stage, the Small Stage and throughout the region - to an audience of around 250,000. GÖTEBORGSOPERAN AB IS LOOKING FOR  

SUBSTITUTE CHORUS MASTER 

GöteborgsOperan is looking for a substitute chorus master for the GöteborgsOperan chorus, which consists of 46 choristers. 

As a chorus master, you will be responsible for the artistic quality, rehearsal, and conducting of the chorus. There are clear areas of responsibility between the chorus master and the chorus manager, who handles administrative duties, but there are also many areas that require close collaboration. Detailed planning for the season is an important task that is carried out in close cooperation with the chorus manager. 

As a chorus master, you report directly to the artistic director of Opera/Drama and are part of the artistic leadership of Opera/Drama. Repertoire planning and rehearsal planning for the 24/25 season are set. Your mission is to ensure the quality of rehearsal and performance of the repertoire, taking into account artistic, work environment, and economic perspectives for the chorus.

Requirements: 

University education at a music academy or equivalent. 

Several years of experience in chorus leadership in professional musical theater. 

Vocal skills and good knowledge of opera repertoire. 

You are: 

Engaged with the ability to motivate, inspire, and develop the chorus, and are adept at finding interesting projects and challenges in collaboration with chorus representatives and the Opera/Drama management. You have a professional attitude, integrity, clarity, and directness in your communication, and show tolerance and respect towards others. Good cooperation with both choristers and other employees in the house is crucial. You also have the ability to plan, optimize, and allocate the choir's resources effectively. As a leader of the chorus, it is also crucial that you provide continuous feedback in a constructive and pedagogical manner to both the group and individuals. 

Employment: 

The employment is a full-time parental substitute position at 100% from July 29, 2024, to March 8, 2025, based in Gothenburg. It is desirable that you are also available for handover in weeks 22 and 23 in June 2024.
