2nd Bass singers to the Göteborg Opera male Chorus

The chorus consists of 46 professional singers and performs in most of our opera productions as well as concerts. Members of the chorus are regularly used for solo parts and are occasionally given the opportunity to cover lead roles. We consider drama and movement to be important elements of the chorus' work.

The Göteborg Opera wish to employ two singers for the 2nd bass section, in the opera chorus. All two positions are permanent contracts and start with a probationary year on the 1st of July 2023. 

Qualifications required: Higher education from Music or Opera Academy or equivalent education. Our working languages are Swedish and English. If you have stage experience from musical theatre, it will be considered a merit. Audition in two rounds, by personal invitation, will take place on October 22-23th 2022. During round 1 on October 22th, a selection process will be done, and a number of candidates will be invited to take part of round 2 of the audition on October 23th. Selected candidates will receive detailed information about the audition, and the audition procedure by the 7th of October 2022, at the latest.

For the audition we would like you to prepare: 

Round 1: 

- One of the following mandatory arias, performed from memory:

1. Sarastro: "In diesen heil'gen Hallen"

2. Osmin: "O, wie will ich triumphieren"

3. Fiesco: "A te, l'estremo addio - il lacerato spirito"

- Chorus excerpts, 1-2 pieces to be performed with piano. The sheet music will be sent to you together with the invitation. 

Round 2: 

- One aria of your choice, in a different language than round 1, performed from memory. 

- Chorus excerpts, 1-2 pieces to be performed with piano and members of the Opera chorus. The sheet music will be sent to you together with the invitation. 

- Possibly a shorter sight reading/auditive test with instructions from the Chorus Master. The music will be sent to you with the invitation to round 2, the day before.
